Las representaciones de las dos sirven para demostrar un aspecto significativo en la vida de la gente andina, especialmente con respecto a los indà ­genas. Los autores tambià ©n utilizan la fe y la iglesia para hacer crà ­ticas fuertes contra las maneras que los indà ­genas estn gobernados y maltratados. En las dos novelas, toda la gente de todas clases es muy religiosa. La iglesia y los polà ­ticos son corruptivos y aprovechan de su poder. Sin embargo, las novelas enfocan en aspectos diferentes. En Aves sin nido, Clorinda Matto de Turner nos da una imagen inocente del indà ­gena y su cristianismo puro da razà ³n de querer ayudarlos. Su fe les ayuda aunque son victimas del poder de la iglesia. Sin embargo Jorge Icaza crea una imagen mucho ms oscuro. En Huasipungo, la iglesia y los polà ­ticos no solo aprovechan de su poder sino tambià ©n aprovechan de la fe de los indà ­genas. Su fe les hace daà ±o y el hecho de que parecen crà ©dulos, entre otras cosas, hace que el lector sienta menos lastima. Despuà ©s de las primeras dos capà ­tulos de Aves sin nido, Matto de Turner ha demostrado que la indà ­gena peruana (representada por Marcela) tiene mucha fe, es inocente, es abusada por la iglesia y polà ­ticos. â€Å"En nombre de la Virgen mi corazà ³n me ha dicho que tà º eres buena†¦ por la Virgen† (Matto 4). La manera sincera y religiosa que Marcela pide ayuda de Lucà ­a por sus deudas del reparto y de la mita, y las descripciones de la gente rezando en el cementerio (Matto 1), hacen que los indà ­genas parezcan buenos. Ms tarde, la novela describe la hija de Marcela como â€Å"†¦esta inocente predestinada que, nacida entre los harapos de la choza†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (Matto 15). Puesto que las violaciones y corrupcià ³n en la iglesia no estn descritos muy detallados, parece que vienen de un problema inherente en el sistema y no tan personal. Sin embargo, Matto de Turner nunca describe una duda o un problema sobre la fe pura y es obvio por toda la novela que respeta mucho a la religià ³n. Ya que la autora tiene a la fe en gran estima, la fe de los indà ­genas los eleva a une nivel mas alta y nos hace sentir que su opresià ³n no viene de ninguna culpa suya. El sentido de Huasipungo es muy diferente. Primero, los indà ­genas no son descritos como puros e inocentes. A travà ©s de abuso domestica y una falta de solidaridad, el lector tiene una imagen un poco manchada de ellos. Otra diferencia es que las abusas contra los indà ­genas son mas detallados, feos y personales. Por ejemplo, cuando don Alfonso viola a la Cunshi es muy clara que à ©l esta tomando la decisià ³n de hacerlo. â€Å"‘Por quà ©? Todos lo han hecho’ Adems acaso no estaba acostumbrado desde muchacho a ver y comprobar que todas las indias servicias de las haciendas eran atropelladas, violadas y desfloradas asà ­ no ms por los patrones. Él era un patrà ³n grande, su mercà ©. Era dueà ±o de todo, de la india tambià ©n† (Icaza 56). Pocos momentos despuà ©s el libro nos ofrece una pista que el cura, y por lo tanto, la fe tambià ©n esta involucrado en actos feos de violacià ³n. â€Å"Sobre ella gravitaba tembloroso de ansiedad y vi olento de lujuria, el ser que se confundà ­a con las amenazas de seà ±or cura, con la autoridad del seà ±or teniente polà ­tico y con la cara de Taita Dios† (Icaza 57). El hecho de que los abusos son ms personales, y no son claramente la culpa del sistema en general, nos hace pensar que los indà ­genas pueden resistir aunque no lo hacen. A pesar de que sus vidas son horribles, los indà ­genas mantienen su fe. â€Å"Taita Dios ampare. Taita Dios defienda† (Icaza 52), es algo repetido y creà ­do por toda la novela. Desafortunadamente la iglesia y los polà ­ticos aprovechan de su fe completa en el poder de Dios y de los curas. Cuando estn hablando de cuando deben tener la minga para construir el camino, el cura sugiere una fecha despuà ©s de la fiesta de la Virgen de Cuchara â€Å"porque asà ­ los indios y los chagras se sentirn protegidos por la Santà ­sima Virgen y trabajarn con mayores brà ­os† (Icaza 64). El cura dice que â€Å"sentirn† en ves de â€Å"sern† porque su intencià ³n es engaà ±arles. Cuando la inundacià ³n esta matando a la gente, â€Å"el santo sacerdote, aprovechando la embriaguez de pnico y de temor que mantenà ­a a los indios como hipnotizados, pregonaba en ejemplo del cielo aquel castigo frente a la tacaà ±erà ­a de los fieles en las limosnas, en el p ago de los responsos, de las misas, de las fiestas y de los duelos† (Icaza 117). Sabemos que los curas se hacen ricos con esta prctica. En ves de respetando la fe, el autor esta burlando de las creencias de los indà ­genas. Llega a un punto casi chistoso cuando don Alfonso imita al cura para asustar a los indà ­genas cuando piden socorros. â€Å"Inspirado en el ejemplo del seà ±or cura, alzo los ojos y los brazos al cielo†¦Ã¢â‚¬  Despuà ©s, los indà ­genas, olvidaron de los socorros porque â€Å"era peligros†¦discutir con Taita Dios [el cual]†¦era superior a sus fuerzas como hombre† (Icaza 126). Al fin de la novela los indà ­genas pierden hasta su derecho de ser llamados cristianos cuando â€Å"les elimine para tranquilidad de nuestros [los gubernamentales] hogares cristianos† (Icaza 170). Esta claro que la fe no esta sagrada en Huasipungo. Por eso, la fe de los indà ­genas es un engaà ±o y en ves de ser honorables, son crà ©dulos. Contrario a Aves sin nido, la fe de los indà ­genas en Huasipungo los baja a un nivel inferior. Combinada con nuestra imagen manchada y la falta de resistencia contra los abusos personales, el lector sienta menos lastima y querer de ayudar a los indà ­genas de Huasipungo comparado con Aves sin nido. La iglesia toma un papel casi igual en las dos novelas. Las dos son corruptas y abusan. Sin embargo el uso de la fe para llegar a objetivos opuestos es muy interesante. Traditional University Education verses Online Education courses - Essay Example Online education, which is in the category of distance learning, involves studying via the internet (Amy, 2009). There is minimal face to face interaction because all assignments are posted, done, and submitted online. The textbooks are also available online and you do not need to incur an extra cost of purchasing them. In the traditional universities you need to rent a house or pay for a hostel maybe because of the distance from your place of residence; this is not the case for online education system. A student taking an online course may not need to attend gyms and dining halls. A mother who is breastfeeding will also not require employing a baby sitter if she is attending an online class. These differences make online education system relatively cheaper. Students who are undertaking online education also have access to scholarships, grants , and loans just like their counterparts undertaking traditional education systems. Convenience The flexibility that goes with online university courses makes them more convenient than traditional university programs. Since physical presence is not compulsory you can choose your own time to study your notes or do your assignments. There is no restriction to access of your lecture notes. This module is preferred by those who are working and do not have the time to attend lectures. However, just like the traditional university module, there are deadlines for submission of assignments and without commitment you cannot succeed in this program. The student should exercise discipline and balance his professional and education time. In an online course, you can also choose the period you want to finish your course. This means that you can schedule in more courses so that you can complete your course earlier. In a traditional system, the courses and exams run at a scheduled time and it is h ard to take more courses (Best Online Universities, 2013). Lucretia was a woman who was believed to have been raped and out of guilt she committed suicide. Augustine uses the rape of Lucretia as an example to cite to teach Christianity about Chastity. Augustine says that and anyone who is forced to have sexual relations and does not consent to them has not committed a sin. A woman should however not commit suicide for such an act being committed on them, as it will bar them from entering the kingdom of God. The story of Lucretia has never been confirmed as an event that actually happened but remains a significant story that relates to the establishment of the Roman Empire. Lucretia’s suicide is what led people to revolt and remove the old establishment and thus symbolized what the Roman Empire stood for; respect for all irrespective of gender or social class. The story did however also show that the Roman Empire was established as a patriarchy as the men rebel in vengeance of a woman who overwhelmed by shame could not muster the courage to continue living her life and relied on the strength of men to avenge for her. The relationship of Augustine and Christians to the ‘city of man’ Augustine in the city of God believes that in actuality there are two cities; there is Rome the city that has been developed by men as an economic bloc and there is the religious Rome that is a city built by God and whose foundation is Christian religion. Augustine therefore shows that there is always going to be a conflict between the way men want to live their lives and the way they should live their lives according to the Lords commandments. Augustine wrote the book after the sacking of Rome by the Visigoths and therefore uses the book to explain that under the laws of God no one dies at a time not planned by him. In addition, that they could not live their lives in fear of death more so if they did live according to the laws of God and not just the laws of man (II, 15). As men, one should not be afraid to show that they are living under the laws of the city of God even if living in a nation that does not recognizes these laws. Voices of freedom Journal Industrialization Essay Industrialization, †the new economy† brought on a wave of new movements and activism in America. Labor movements, women’s rights activists, social, religious, and political reform are among the changes of the Market Society. Industrialization shaped Market Society expansion in many ways. Immigration, Nativism, Westward Expansion, the rise of Nativism,Transcendentalists Movement and The Second Great Awakening all taking place during the 1800-1840 Market Society growth. Market Society refers to farmers, large city growth, factory system, and immigration. Industrialization was the force that shaped Market Society. In the Northwest farming and commercial cities were booming. Westward expansion was due to land being cheap and plentiful which was especially appealing. The belief that freedom laid in the west was because of the availability of land and was ultimately important to economic independence. Here farmers sold livestock and were able to rapidly plow land with aid of the steel plow. While credit and the market was to the east. Cities like Cincinnati and Chicago would grow due to the population growth from immigration and high demand for jobs. Artisan workers were soon replaced by that of the factory worker usually female or immigrants. The very first factory was established in 1790 based on an outwork system. Later large scale factories would be constructed focusing on cotton textiles. Lowell factory is known for their female factory workers. These women adopted the name â€Å"Lowell† girls. Lowell girls were young women of farm families who were offered meager wages for long hours of labor. Ultimately overworked and frustrated workers would expose the grueling conditions of working in the factory. In the words on one Lowell factory worker document 51 in Voices of Freedom, Eric Foner â€Å"Shall they be compelled to listen in silence to those who speak for gain, and are the mere echo of the will of  the corporations? Shall the worthy laborer be silenced by wealth and power, and for fear of being deprived of the means of procuring his daily bread?†. Written is 1845 this worker was upset and speaking out after being over worked, mistreated, and underpaid. This quote is telling not only of her personal feeling about being silenced by power but the mass feelings of injustice to the common worker by corporations at the time. I feel the audience this worker is trying to reach is not only fellow workers to gain backing in resistance of mistreatment but the corporations as well. She is standing up for her own integrity and encouraging others in her situation to the same. She is rightfully casting shame on those corporations for inflicting those conditions. It is during this time that women began to fight for equal rights of opportunity and happiness outside of the home. Immigration caused labor demands to rise fueling the economic expansion. The approximately 4 million immigrants who migrated to America had a variety of motivating factors. Irish Potato Famine, European economic conditions, religion and politics are all some of the reasons immigrants were making the voyage to the America in such large numbers. Most immigrants during this time were German or Irish. Generally Germans came to America more skilled workers and the Irish were unprepared fleeing famine forcing them to fill low-wage laboring jobs. Eventually Nativism would rise in the 1840’s and 50’s. A racially fueled violent backlash in New York City and Philadelphia against immigrants, â€Å"Nativists† feared immigrants were the down fall of America. Nativists blamed immigrants for crimes, corruptions, addictions, and poor wages. ‘Walks among the New york City Poor’, New York Times June 23,1853. Document 52. Voices of Freedom, Eric Foner. â€Å"Healthy, stout frames, and low, degraded faces with many stamps of inferiority†. Here the writer really captures the discriminatory American opinion of immigrants at this time. Nativism labeled these people as inferior and not capable of rising above the status that they arrive with. He is stating that immigrants are seen as inferior to everyone around them and in for a hard time as the reading goes on. I feel like the purpose of the article is to shed light on the high hopes of immigrants and minimal possibility in the new world. This was a very difficult time to be an immigrant. During this time a group of New England intellectuals formed called The Transcendentalists. This group of men believed in the idea of The Free Individual. Ralph Waldo Emerson was a Transcendentalist who believed freedom obtained by the process of self realization transforming ones self according to their own liking. Voices of freedom, Eric Foner document 54. â€Å"The American Scholar 1837,† Ralph Waldo Emerson opens his powerful statement â€Å"In self-trust, all the virtues are comprehended†. Ralph Waldo Emerson addresses the nation and President directly. He is expressing here that self realization is the key success and freedom. This was the fundamental principle of Individualism the the Transcendentalist’s believed in. Henry David Thoreau also a Transcendentalist believed the market revolution worsened individual judgment and freedom was within the individual. The Second Great Awakening was more optimistic than the first and had similar philosophy of the Tra nscendentalists with the addition of a religious twist. The belief in self improvement through determination with the addition of Christianity. Christian denominations such as baptists and methodists began to branch off during this time.

Any company which desires to stay ahead of its competition will engage in training and team building efforts for their employees. However, is it really effective? What if the employees do not perceive the training in a positive manner? In their case study, Employee perceptions and their influence on training effectiveness, Amalia Santos and Mark Stuart examine these questions and more.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The basic research question at hand was: Overall, what are the employee’s attitudes and perceptions toward the training they were being asked to obtain? Secondly, are the workers able to take the training which they have received and utilize that knowledge in the workplace?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Santos and Stuart state that most of the human resource literature seems to point at the fact that training is the most significant factor in obtaining behavioral and cultural change. They cite Keep, E. (1989). 'Corporate training: the vital component?' in New Perspectives on Human Resource Management as showing that training was able to bring about a deeper commitment by workers toward a project as well as bring out certain talents or abilities that may not have been utilized or noticed before(Santos, Stuart, 2003).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The researcher’s; hypothesis was that the evaluation methods would make a difference in matching the type of training to the employee’s needs and that when this was done the employee’s attitude toward the training would be a positive one.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Most of the research participants were employees who worked in the core financial services business. Upper management were included as well as those in the branches, on the line, and the head office. Names were selected randomly from a computer’s system.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  One of the larger variables in this case study was the motivation of the employee himself. One of the larger complaints that Santos and Stuart point out, is that companies are spending large amounts of money on training but have no way to determine whether a certain type of training is being effective or not. The dependent variables were those employees whose interest level was known to be high. These people wanted the training and were highly motivated to attend.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  This case study took place in 1999 for the span of four months in a financial services organization called FinanceCo(Santos, Stuart, 2003). This company had a good reputation for implementing good people management processes and they had the reputation for being quite invested in the idea of ongoing and regular training for all of their employees.
